Thank you to our team of volunteer coaches who visited the Hilton Head Island Elementary Schools recently and provided tennis lessons to hundreds of children during their PE classes. The goal of the program is to introduce children to tennis at an early age through school PE programs and give PE teachers the tools to build tennis into their curriculum. This is our second year working with the two HHI public schools.
This year, we’re adding two Bluffton schools and two Beaufort schools. Recently, introductory sessions were completed at St Helena, Robert Smalls, and Okatie Elementary. All of the schools receive a starter set of racquets, a portable net, a ball hopper, and low compression foam balls which work well in a gym – all compliments of the USTA and a PTI grant-funded program! This is a great program for volunteer coaches who enjoy working with children but can only help out for a few hours here and there.
