Tennnisportal is a set of website tools for making tennis connections. Find a court, find a pro, find a tournament, find an event, find a team, find a clinic. The software, partially-funded by a USTA innovation grant, was written by Wayne Lilley, with research assistance by Caroline Brooks. It is currently in a “Beta testing” mode, but Beaufort County area players are welcome to use it. The Tennisportal map interface (“Find a Court”) is used by the Hilton Head area Chamber of Commerce to connect players to area facilities, events and tournaments. The initial data set for Tennisportal proof-of-concept was a 100 mile radius around Hilton Head, but the data set is being expanded to cover the southern region so that all southern USTA events are included. Wayne’s hope is that a standard set of tools will evolve which are useful and consistent over the entire U.S. map.
